RULES AND REGULATIONS – 1980 & NEWER Full Size Straight Stock -2010 Rules

 IMPORTANT:  Each driver and mechanic must sign in at registration desk the day of show and have their cars inspected solely to determine compliance with those rules and not for purpose of determining safety of car or participant NO REFUNDS!

 DRIVER MUST ATTEND DRIVERS’ MEETING PRIOR TO DEMOLITION DERBY OR DRIVER WILL BE DISQUALIFIED

 I have read the rules and acknowledge to have received a copy of same and agree that the decision of the Judges is final.  I agree to participate at my own risk absolutely.  It is a condition of my participation in the contest that I sign a further release of liability in the form to be supplied by Impact Motorsports and I agree to sign such a release.

 

SPECIAL NOTICE: No alcohol or drugs allowed in any restricted (PIT, HOLDING OR PERFORMING) AREA.

Any violations will result in disqualification of CAR, DRIVER AND CREW.

 The Impact Motorsports Demolition Derby is promoted as an unusual spectator attraction.   

 DRIVERS and MECHANICS are subject to and must obey the following rules and regulations which are set up by the promoter and the track where this event is being held:

 

  1. Each driver must be a minimum age of 16.  All 16 & 17 year olds must have a parent or guardians sign an insurance waiver. Guardian must provide photo ID.
  2. The original registered driver must drive that vehicle for the entire event. No substituting drivers.
  3. IMPACTMotorsports or promoter reserves the right to approve or reject any and all entries, drivers or pit persons.
  4. Only drivers and mechanics who sign the release sheet will be permitted in the pit area or on the track.  Driver and one (1) pit person receive free pit passes upon registration of car on day of show. All drivers and pit person must wear supplied pit passes.
  5. IMPACTMotorsports, the promoter, track owner or fair association will not be held responsible for any cars, parts or personal property before, during and after the show.
  6. Each competitor to carry their liability insurance. Impact Motorsports policy does not cover participants.
  7. Drivers and mechanics should report to the Impact Motorsports sign in area minimum of an hour before the scheduled start time.
  8. NO pit person under the age of 16. IMPACT MOTORSPORTS reserves the right to ask all pit persons for photo ID. All drivers and mechanics are in the pit area at their own risk.

 

Type of Car

 1. Any car 1980 & newer hardtop automobile or station wagon with a wheelbase of 106” or larger.  6 & 8 cylinder

2. NO trucks, convertibles, jeeps, vans, hearses, limousines or checker cabs.

3. Cars previously run in demos may be considered too battered and unsafe, resulting in disqualification.

4. If there is in any question regarding the participant’s vehicle, it is the driver’s responsibility to prove make, model, year, engine rear end, etc.

 

RUNNING

Risk: Demolition derbies are hazardous and high-risk sports; therefore, anyone with a health condition, i.e., concussion, heart problems etc. or who is pregnant should not compete.

Protect yourself. Work Boots, sport equipment – e.g. neck brace, knee pads, etc. are recommended.   

No bare exposed skin.  All drivers MUST wear long pants/coveralls or long sleeved shirts. No exceptions.

Working seat belt and racing helmet are mandatory.  Helmets MUST have chin straps. Goggles or face shields are recommended.

BRAKES – Vehicles must have dependable brakes and must be working properly before entering pen at all times.  All boundaries must be observed.

NO DRINKING OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES ON TRACK, EMERGENCY VEHICLE AREA OR IN THE PIT AREA.  Any driver or pit person under the influence of alcohol or drugs allowed in the pit area. This will be strictly enforced.

Competitive aggressive hits!  Careless driving in the pit area could result in disqualification.

All cars are to be removed from the fairgrounds or racetrack immediately following the show.

Additional safety regulations may be imposed, depending on track and conditions. 

Any protests must be made within 5 minutes of the last feature heat by another feature driver. Protest fee’s are $100 and are non refundable.

All decisions of the official are final. NO REFUNDS!!

Preparation of car must be DONE PRIOR to arriving at fairgrounds or track.

                                       1980 & NEWER FULL SIZE STRAIGHT STOCK

 1. insurance

ALL drivers and pit persons MUST sign the event insurance waiver. Failing to do so will result in disqualification. Pit passes must be worn at all times.

 2. Flammable Material

All carpet, headliner, door pads and ALL other flammable material MUST be removed from inside of car. Front seat and dash board may be left in place.

 3. Trailer Hitch

Must be removed.

 4. Glass/airbags

All windows, mirrors, airbags & trim, must be removed prior to derby event. No loose glass smashed into the bottom of doors. DRIVERS SAFTEY

 5. Doors & Numbers

Driver door must be PAINTED WHITE. An optional roof number plate may be securely installed. 

 6. Fire Extinguisher

Must be within reach of the driver, must work and have a proper working gauge. Please check gauge on the extinguisher before arriving for the event.

 7. Battery

One 12 volt car battery must be moved to front passenger floor board and securely fastened in a box/container clear of all fuel sources. Following inspection it must be covered with a non-flammable shield such as rubber mat or steel cover. Heavy truck or farm batteries may result in disqualification. NO double batteries.

 8. Gas Tank

Stock gas tanks must be removed. Must be a steel marine tank, custom steel fuel tank, or certified racing fuel cell.  Plastic tanks MUST have a rubber floor mat mounted between the floor and tank. All tanks must be securely fastened down (bolted) in the middle of the back seat area. Tank must be covered with a non-flammable material (rubber mat) after inspection. No movement to occur during inspection. Leaks will result in disqualification.  Ref has final decision.

 9.  Fuel Lines

All fuel lines must have leak proof fitting with steel or rubber lines (no clear lines). No exceptions. Lines should run inside car. Leaks will result in disqualification. All connections MUST have hose clamps to eliminate fuel leaks.

10. Electric Fuel

      Pump

Must have a safety shut off switch marked in red located on roof in center of the windshield area for officials use. Switch to control fuel pump only. Driver’s safety. MANDATORY. This rule is for fuel injected cars only.

11. Fuel System

Electric fuel pump must be isolated with a non-flammable material covering lines, tank & pump. Example: covering may be fire resistant blanket or air bag material.

12. WELDING

ABSOLUTELY NO WELDING ON VEHICLE.  Except rear differential gears. No Exceptions. Referee has final decision.

13. ENGINE

Must be stock year driveline. Fuel injected stays fuel injected and carbureted stays carbureted. Motors maybe switched but only  same make. Example- Gm in Gm , Ford – Ford, Dodge  – Dodge.  No distributor protects or drive line protectors of any kind. If the year/make/driveline of car is in question, driver MUST provide proof the car was made in that fashion, otherwise, Referee will have final say. Firewall can be cut out behind engine.

14. SHIFTERS

Shifters may be directly attached to transmission linkage & relocated thru floor over transmission hump.

15. Hood & Trunk/tailgate

 

Hoods are not mandatory. Without hood – use electric fan only – fans directly connected to motor must be removed. With hood – a 12” opening must be cut in the center of the hood. Hoods must remain open for officials’ inspection. Hood can be fastened down in maximum of 8 places including threaded rod or with seat belt strapping, wire, or chain only. Hoods can be wired to bumper in 2 places.  Maximum of 2 spots with threaded rod maximum of ¾ inch holding the hood shut. These spots will account for 2 of the 8 spots. Trunk/tailgate to be fastened down in same way as hood. If trunk is fastened closed a 16” square hole must be cut in center of trunk for officials’ inspection. Trunks/gates can be fastened closed in maximum or 8 place including wired in 2 places to rear bumper. Maximum of 2 spots with threaded rod maximum of ¾ inch holding the trunk shut. These spots will account for 2 of the 8 spots. No other bolts holding hood/trunk closed except hinges.  Threaded rod must still have rubber mounts in place.

16. Body Panels

No body bending or bolting.

17. Door Fastening

All doors must be fastened shut with wire, straps, ¼” chains or seat belts in 6 locations per door.   

18. Bracing

Inside car: Post to post bar behind front seats – 3” to 4” in diameter – must be bolted. DASH BAR-  3” to Max 4” square tubing mounted doorframe to doorframe, but not to firewall. Not Mandatory. Driver Safety. Dash and seat bar must be bolted not welded.  Suggested that the safety bars be bolted thru the outside of doors with ¾ bots with 2 bolts on each side. Outside Car:  Flat bar only bolted 8 times with a maximum ½”  bolts Max  72” long x 12” wide x ¼” thick.  NO “C” CHANNEL, ANGLE IRON or BEVELLING. NO WELDING.  Not mandatory. Driver Safety. Safety bars MUST be securely mounted inside the car.

19. Windshield Space

Strong steel construction-type wire mesh is recommended for the windshield area. One strong upright steel, chain or iron bar must be bolted in windshield area.

20. FIRE WALL

All holes in firewall must be filled/covered with tin or nonflammable material.

 

21.  Bumpers

Only 1980 & newer stock bumpers allowed. Ford to GM ETC permitted with stock bumper shocks. Front bumpers can be flipped upside down. No switching front to rear\rear to front. No cutting of bumpers ends may be bent inward. No loading of bumpers (holes may be required to be cut in bumpers) 2- ½” bolts maybe used thru bumper face into the shock plate- this is 2 bolts per shock- this means 4 1\2” bolts per bumper. Over use of bolts may result in disqualification. 

22.  Radiator

Radiators and cooling system must be flushed of anti-freeze and only water added. Overflows for radiator must point downward to the ground. Radiator must be mounted in original position or removed. No screens allowed. (Stock A.C. condensers permitted in original position.) No metal added around the rad for reinforcement. No rad guards.   

23. Transmission

      Cooler

Are permitted and must be secured in engine compartment. Transmission dipstick must be securely fastened, wired down or have an overflow tube pointing straight down away from drivers or spectators. No coolers inside the driver’s compartment.
24. LEAF SPRINGS      SHOCKS & COILS Suspension must be stock.  Movement must occur. It is recommended that rear coiled springs be wired to the differential. 

25. Headers

Must be secure, must point upwards and not at other drivers/spectators. Must be a reasonable length or will be asked to be cut or removed. Official’s discretion.

26. Frame

      ALTERATIONS

No patching, repairing or painting of frames.

27. ENGINE mounts

Chained down engine mounts are recommended.  Any excessive reinforcement will be disqualified.

28. Body Mounts

Rubber body mounts must be kept in with stock size bolts.  Factory bolts cannot have large washers installed.  If the car has threaded rod holding the hood/truck shut rubber mounts must still be in place. The center of mounts can be made larger to accommodate the 3\4 threaded rod. Referees discretion.

29. Tires

Maximum D.O.T. Tires must be low aggression. No forklift tires or solid fill tires. All tires must be filled with air only. Tires may be doubled. No split rims. No screwing tires to rim or studding. All wheel weights must be removed and no welding stem protections. Carry spare  D.O.T. mud tires in case track conditions warrant. Referee’s discretion.

30. Pre-bending

No pre-bending frame or body. Notching frames is permitted.

31. MECHANICAL
  REPAIRS

Must be stock material and in no way enhance ability/performance of vehicle. Rear ends, steering, control arms, axels must all remain stock.
